2026 Worldwide Regulations
Regulation #1
Don’t be an ADV Weenie.
Regulation #2
If you are considering making a complaint about the rally, rally staff, weather, mileage, or a competitor, kindly refer to Regulation #1.
Regulation #3
All rulings by the Rally Master are final.
Regulation #4
Competitor Qualification
A: All competitors must have a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement, and present said license at the rally check-in.
B: All competitors must sign the rally waiver at the rally check-in.
C: All competitors must be 18 years old or older at the time of rally check-in.
D: A maximum of one competitor and one passenger per motorcycle. An additional passenger is permitted if the motorcycle is lawfully equipped with a sidecar.
E: No pets.
F: Any competitor may be disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. Any competitor disqualified will not be welcome to enter or attend any future ADV Cannonball events.
G: All competitors are responsible for checking the official rally notice page daily between 11:00 pm and 5:00 am local time for daily start times and important bulletins. There are no printed handouts or physical bulletins for any ADV Cannonball Event.
Regulation #5
Motorcycle Qualification
A: All motorcycles must have two or three wheels.
B: All motorcycles must be lawfully licensed and insured.
C: The competitor may not replace the motorcycle frame after the rally check-in without the permission of the Rally Master.
D: Where practical, motorcycles must display “rally livery” on four sides of the motorcycle.
Regulation #6
GPX Routing
A: All official GPX routes will be published no later than 30 days before the start of the rally on the official rally website. Draft GPX routes may be published before the rally starts; it is the sole responsibility of the competitor to use the official GPX routes and checkpoints once published.
B: It is the sole responsibility of the competitor to understand how to download and navigate using a GPS with the rally GPX and checkpoint files.
C: The GPX route does not need to be followed to score points. Points are scored by achieving checkpoints.
Regulation #7
Scoring
A: The automated “Rally Scoring App” is the only way to score points.
B: The competitor must provide their own, stand-alone, and continuously powered smartphone device, either Android or iOS, to run “The Rally Scoring App”. Never use your “Rally Scoring App” smartphone for navigation or any other use during the rally. “The Rally Scoring App” must remain open, in the foreground, and the device must remain unlocked and in an appropriate phone holder in clear view of the sky. Additionally, background/always GPS/location services and full notifications permissions must be granted throughout the rally. The device must have a data connection at all times. Competitors are discouraged from using an Android device as they are less stable.
C: Once checkpoints are published, only the Rally Master can alter or delete a checkpoint. This information will be promptly published on the rally notice page.
D: Each non-extreme checkpoint that is completed and recorded by “The Rally Scoring App” will be awarded 10 points.
E: “Extreme” checkpoints that are completed and recorded by “The Rally Scoring App” will be awarded 21 points.
F: Each day, the first competitor to complete and record the daily Finish Line checkpoint by “The Rally Scoring App” (adjusting for rally number/starting time. i.e., the shortest elapsed time) will be awarded 25 additional points.
G: The final tabulation of points will be published on the official rally webpage.
H: The rally is considered “over” 60 minutes before the published awards banquet time and date.
I: In the unlikely event that there is a total and unrecoverable failure of “The Rally Scoring App”, the competitor with the most "first to arrive” bonuses will be the overall winner.
J: Each day of the rally, competitors cannot start before the “daily official start time,” plus the competitor’s assigned rally number. The start time for each day is published on the rally notice page. Times are always published as “local time.” Early departure is unsportsmanlike. There is no penalty for a late departure.
Example: The published start time for Day 3 is 08:00 Local Time, and your rally number is 8. So you would depart at 08:08 Local Time.
K: In the unlikely event of a points tie for the overall winner, the competitor with the most "first to arrive" bonuses will be awarded the overall winner award. However, if there is still a tie, at the direction of the Rally Master, a "sudden death, full contact, slow race" will be conducted thirty minutes before the published awards banquet start time.
Regulation #8
Awards
A: The Overall ADV Cannonball Winner Award is awarded to the competitor with the most points at the end of the rally.
B: ADV Cannonball Checkpoint Crusher Award is awarded to any competitor who completes all checkpoints. “DIRT” and “Extreme” checkpoints are not required.
C: ADV Cannonball Rough Rider Award is awarded to any competitor who completes all “DIRT” checkpoints. “Extreme” checkpoints are not required.
D: ADV Cannonball Finisher Medal is awarded to any competitor who is present at the awards banquet.

Regulation #11
Self Supporting

If an EV motorcycle petitions to invoke these exemptions, the Rally Master must be notified at the time of check-in. Conversely, any EV motorcycle that adheres to all regulations will be eligible for all points and awards.
