GPS Checkpoints
The GPS Checkpoint Rally App is a comprehensive tool designed to create and run various types of waypoint events. This system allows the event organizer, known as the Rally Master, to design events where participants can reach checkpoints using the GPS capabilities of their devices. Competitors can drive, walk, ski, hike, fly, or sail to checkpoints located anywhere on the planet, while our system tracks their progress and overall scores. Competitors can navigate with an external GPS device, third-party GPS app, rally roadbook, compass, map, or basic overland orienteering, ensuring real-time tracking of competitors as they reach each event checkpoint. Additionally, the app automatically logs important information like the date and time and which competitor reached a checkpoint first.
Originally developed for the ADV Cannonball Rally, an adventure motorcycle checkpoint event, we've expanded the functionality to accommodate any event using longitude and latitude waypoints. Users can easily copy any waypoint to the iOS clipboard for use in any navigation app.
The Features

Each GPS checkpoint includes latitude and longitude coordinates, a radius, a name, a point value, and a description.

Our APP for both Android and iOS can safely run in the background, provided the user has not restricted GPS and notification access.

A real-time scoreboard is available for all apps participating in your event. The suite can also provide a public leaderboard link if desired.

Once a competitor registers their app, the system downloads all checkpoints locally onto their device. Competitors can achieve checkpoints even when offline, with updates occurring the next time a data connection is available. The entire suite is intentionally designed to prioritize stability and reliability over a graphic-rich user experience.

The Rally Master can send messages directly to competitors' devices. These messages will”push” to every competitors device even if it is locked. Even if a user is offline, the system will deliver messages the next time they connect to the internet via cellular or Wi-Fi.

The Rally Master can award non-GPS checkpoints at any time, with any point value, using the Rally Master function.

In addition to the Rally Master function on the iOS app, this event organizer can build and manage an event from any computer. This is especially helpful for large events.

The competitor function of the mobile app can be used on both iOS and Android (Google Play App Store). The Rally Master functions must be accessed via iOS or a computer.

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is used for all events, eliminating time zone discrepancies.

For larger events, support staff can be provided for remote monitoring and assistance during events and rallies.

All connected devices will be displayed in real time on the leaderboard maps, in addition to the event checkpoints.

Only one competitor device can be active simultaneously across any platform. Each CP receives a UTC timestamp automatically, allowing rally staff to perform additional manual scrutiny.

For large events, it can be cumbersome to build and manage them solely from an iPhone. However, every event Rally Master has access to their web app, which allows them to create, edit, and monitor any event from any computer.

For building and running events on an iOS device.
Using our app, event organizers can set up a complete rally or checkpoint event. After the app administrator configures your event, the Rally Master (RM) will use their token to access the app. From that point, the RM can create checkpoints and competitor entries. Please use the request form below to ask the admins to set up your event today!

We are not charging for use of our system. We only ask that your event gives us credit and that the Rally Master provides feedback.
In the future, large events will be asked to make a tiny donation for server maintenance.
Start Here
To start creating a rally or event, the Rally Master or Event Organizer must first contact the App Administrator via the form below. The admin will then create the framework for your event based on some information, such as, type of event and the number of competitors.
The admin will send the Rally Master an access token so they can start creating checkpoints and competitors. The RM can use our easy-to-use web app or the mobile app. It's that easy!
